About Growth Factors:
성장인자(Growth Factor)는 체내에서 생성되는 단백질 분자로, 세포 분열과 세포 생존을 조절하는 기능을 합니다. 성장인자는 실험실에서 유전자 공학 기술로도 생산할 수 있으며, 생물학적 치료에 활용됩니다.
성장인자는 세포 표면의 수용체에 결합하여 세포 증식 및/또는 분화를 활성화합니다. 일부 성장인자는 다양한 세포 유형의 분열을 자극하는 반면, 다른 성장인자는 특정 세포 유형에만 특이적으로 작용합니다. 즉, 성장인자는 세포 성장을 촉진하는 단백질입니다.
성장인자는 성장 촉진제(mitogens) 및/또는 성장 억제제로 작용하고, 세포 이동을 자극하거나 화학주성 인자로 작용하며, 세포 이동을 억제하고 종양 세포의 침윤을 억제할 수 있습니다. 또한 세포의 분화된 기능을 조절하고, 세포자멸사(apoptosis)와 혈관신생(angiogenesis)에 관여하며, 성장과 분화에는 영향을 주지 않으면서 세포 생존을 촉진하기도 합니다.
성장인자는 세포 배양의 조건배지(conditioned medium)에서 확인되는 분비성 확산 인자로 존재하며, 막에 결합된 형태로도 존재합니다. 성장인자는 자가분비(autocrine), 측분비(paracrine), 접촉분비(juxtacrine) 또는 역분비(retrocrine) 방식으로 작용합니다.
일반적으로 연구자들은 성장인자를 사이토카인(cytokine)과 동의어로 사용하기도 합니다.
대표적인 성장인자에는 EGF, FGF, NGF, PDGF, VEGF, IGF, GM-CSF, G-CSF, TGF, Erythropoietin, TPO, BMP, HGF, GDF, Neurotrophins, MSF, SGF 등이 있습니다.
